About the Event
Porn is apparently parents’ greatest fear
Well they’re not terrified of porn themselves.
What I mean is, they’re terrified that their kids are going to access porn.
First off this seems a little ‘ironic’ to me given that the largest consumer group of online porn is men between the ages of 35 and 49 - and I’m guessing quite a few of them are probably dads.
So if it’s our greatest fear then why is it also one of our greatest past times?
What’s good for the goose, is good for the gander?
Oh sorry, do what I say, not what I do, that’s more like it!
Now I will say up front, that most people who view porn do not have an addiction. Phew!
However, If you’re watching between at least 11-12 hours a week, I’m afraid you do fall into that category.
And porn addiction is rising (excuse the pun)
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out that the increasing exposure of children to internet porn also likely contributes to the rise in porn addiction.
Age restrictions on porn sites often consist of no more than a button to click claiming to be 18 or older.
The average age of first exposure to pornography is now only 11 years old. As many as 93.2% of boys and 62.1% of girls first see porn before they turn 18.
Early exposure to porn is correlated with increased porn use and addiction later in life.
So how the hell do we combat our kids watching it and is that even the answer?
I’ve spent the last two years investigating this topic (amongst others) and decided that it was time to share my findings and have a frank and honest discussion with parents who fear their kids accessing it, yet most likely share a house with an adult watching it.
Confused? You should be.
